Random Walks in the Low Countries
Reflections and observations on the expatriate experience from an American scientist living and working in the Netherlands.
It’s turning into a busy week, ahead of a busy month. I took the train down to Brighton today for a site visit, reviewing our microbiology progress ahead of a milestone review in mid-December. The trains back dropped me into London with a couple of hours to spare before the off-peak ticket north to Cambridge kicked in. Rather than fight it, I took a long stroll between Oxford Circle and Piccadilly – lovely evening to enjoy the lights and browse the stores.
Outside the Tate, Friday was a beautiful early fall day in London. The weather was warm, the tourists had gone, and the bridges and buildings were chiseled against the sky. Cranes pierce the cityscapes at every angle, blooming in bright primary colors. ‘really a lovely day to wander and catch a few photographs (and a South American clown show at the National Theater café).
From spontaneous student parades to sudden summer storms, the light and the views are ever-changing during a week in Maastricht.
